Inside the Hanover St garage in Portsmouth, NH. Had just come from seeing Made in Dagenham at The Music Hall (really good!) and liked these two rows of diagonals.

I'm sure it is fairly obvious what this is but I wanted to make a somewhat abstract B&W image today.

Heartlight

Heartlight, originally uploaded by srcleaves.
045/365

My apologies up front for any soft rock songs that get stuck in your head (Neil Diamond's Heartlight) but what else could I call this? My neighbor made this heart-shaped display of red mite-lights and I saw it coming home from the chiropractor. I like the glow in the snow. Processed this through Schloss' Bleach Bypass 1 preset in Aperture.

Spiral Blocks

Spiral Blocks, originally uploaded by srcleaves.
043/365

I've seen a lot of Jenga shots lately so I thought I'd do my own. My blocks are actually from an LL Bean game called Ta-Ka-Radi but its all the same build a tower and pull out blocks till it falls over game.

Chew Toy

Chew Toy, originally uploaded by srcleaves.
039/365

One of Olivia's Pet Stages toys that is intended to promote chewing for cleaner teeth. She won't do anything with it unless you throw it or hold it right up to her mouth. But I still think it is a neat looking toy, especially up close.

Red Sleeve

Red Sleeve, originally uploaded by srcleaves.
038/365

A sleeve on the back of a "suede" shirt I have. The camera definitely has trouble when dealing with large areas of a single color. The shot came out orange and I had to change the hue post process.

Spin

Spin, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

I screwed up my back so I was laying on the floor and my ceiling fan reminded me of a professional photographer's shot of a ceiling fan and moose head. I've also been wanting to do shutter-priority shots with motion and this fit the bill. I like that you get just a hint on the 5 blades in this quarter-second exposure.

Binders

Binders, originally uploaded by srcleaves.
035/365

I've had this package of colored binders from my interest in the hipster PDA years ago. Interesting thing about this shot is that the color was not correct out of camera at all but I fixed it in Aperture. Shooting with the flash resulted in better color but typical ugly on-camera flash glare.

The Better to Hear You With

The Better to Hear You With, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

A macro shot of Olivia's black ear, which as you can see has quite a bit of white fur as well.

Scorpion Sucker

Scorpion Sucker, originally uploaded by srcleaves.
020/365

OK so on the East coast we call these lollipops not suckers but Scorpion Sucker does sound better. I'm going to post an alternate as well but I think you have to admit the tension of having a scorpion facing you, even when encased in sugar, overrides any focus issues. This was in the goodie bags that the company gave out at the reception.

Click through for the alternate shot.

Cactus

Just a standard top-down cactus shot. I had arrived at my hotel in AZ not long before and was tired, hungry, and a bit annoyed :)

Marble Pyramid

Marble Pyramid, originally uploaded by srcleaves.
013/365

A pyramid of green marbles shot in a makeshift "studio" with dark background and side light (admittedly harsh). Silly putty (which you can see) was used to anchor the marbles.

This was really just an experiment to see how it would work. The S95 doesn't have great macro focusing unfortunately.

Spectrum

Spectrum, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

This is a macro shot of a visible light spectrum that was showing on the wall of my office this morning.

You really need to click through to see the shot of the suncatcher that made this spectrum.

Dead Soldier

Dead Soldier, originally uploaded by srcleaves.
008/365

A toy soldier Christmas decoration that someone apparently tossed off Memorial Bridge and which is now stranded on the river ice until Spring.

This makes me think of my grandfather - a military man - for two reasons: 1) he always had toy soldier decorations leading up the front steps of his home at Christmas, and 2) at family gatherings empty bottles were known as dead soldiers.

My eye. I had hoped to get closer but my camera just can't focus closer and this is pretty heavily cropped as a result.
