Bottle Caps

Bottle Caps, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

Beer bottle caps to be more precise. I like the range of colors and designs of micro-brew caps. That plain one in the lower right is from a bottle of Rye Not brewed at The Portsmouth Brewery.

Three Bridges

Three Bridges, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

150/365

The three bridges that connect Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, ME across the Piscataqua River. Nearest (and up for boat traffic) is Memorial Bridge. Behind that (also a lift bridge) is Sarah Mildred Long Bridge, and behind that (the cantilevered arch) is the Piscataqua River Bridge which carries Rt 95 over the river.

After an extremely fun Sunday we headed to TGI Fridays for dinner and this is a portion of one of their cool wall displays.

Two Toothbrushes

Two Toothbrushes, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

147/365

Time got away from me yesterday and we'd finished watching a movie before I realized I hadn't taken a photo. I'd been thinking about the two toothbrushes as a possibility so here they are.

Rocking Chair Porch

Rocking Chair Porch, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

146/365

I walk by this porch most days on my way to work and I've taken a few shots of these nice-looking rocking chairs. On this day the light seemed particularly good. Just need a glass of iced tea ad a friend to sit a spell with.

Nickel

Nickel, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

145/365

Although the high shutter speed doesn't convey it this nickel was spinning at the time it was captured. My kitchen is not level. Nor is my table as a result so it was a challenge to get something in focus.

Waterdrops

Waterdrops, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

144/365

A macro shot of waterdrops on the window page. The screen is behind that and a large fir tree makes up much of the background. We've had a lot of rain lately.

Communication

Communication, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

141/365

Long exposure (13s) of me typing on my iMac. It is interesting that the keypresses must be so fast that it looks like my fingers are just moving above the keyboard. I was using a neutral density filter with the new attachment I put on my Canon S95 today to allow me to use filters.

Carswell Auto Parts

Carswell Auto Parts, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

140/365

This local auto parts store somehow manages to survive in downtown Dover. How much longer will it be here? When I walk by in the mornings there are usually a couple of older men sitting on stools in the front just talking.

Shark Bait

Shark Bait, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

139/365

There are a number of cool grafitti-style paintints throughout Portsmouth right now. It is related to Prescott Park and the Portsmouth Museum of Art (who knew?) somehow. This big shark is down by the riverfront.

Old Bridge with Cranes

Old Bridge with Cranes, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

138/365

There is a project to widen the General Sullivan Bridge which connects Dover, NH to Newington, NH over Great Bay. This is an even older bridge that is beside the project and is open to pedestrians. The weather was 50 degrees and foggy with a light mist. I thought it would be good conditions to shoot the cranes.

Along the River

Along the River, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

137/365

Everything is in bloom in Dover despite the cool temps and constant gloom. I like the way the petals from the flowers on the tree are dusting the shrubs below.

Plastic Stress

This is a photo of a plastic pitcher sitting in front of my iMac and using my polarized sunglasses in front of the camera. The combination shows the stress patterns in the plastic of the pitcher.

Rice Paper Lantern

Rice Paper Lantern, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

135/365

I've been trying to get a shot of this rice paper lantern since I bought it but haven't been that happy with the results. I mainly selected this shot because the thumbnail looks a bit like an eye.

Portsmouth Homes

Portsmouth Homes, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

134/365

I was in Portsmouth yesterday to meet a friend for dinner and was a bit early. This was one of the few shots I got before the battery in my camera died. Perspective as been corrected in PTLens, though it didn't require much as I was fairly far back.

This is a hand-blown high-ball glass that I bought this past weekend in Vermont. I placed a candle inside to light through the colored swirl pattern.

Cocheco Falls

Cocheco Falls, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

129/365

Seems every day is different at the falls. Here the Toy Camera preset in Aperture gives the scene a little added richness.

Blown Glass

Blown Glass, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

128/365

Took this shot from the Zimke Glass Blowing Studio observation room. The window separating the craftsman's area from the studio provides a nice look at some of the finished product. The assistant glass blower was making ornament globes like those you see in the image.

Quechee Gorge

127/365

This is Quechee Gorge in Quechee, VT shot using the miniture scene mode on my camera which is designed to simulate a tilt-shift effect.

Default Avatar

Default Avatar, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

126/365

After seeing another photographer's portraits done as the default Facebook avatar I decided I would like to try it myself. I used some white face paint which before I changed the photo to black and white was very inconsistent and blotchy but the red filter helped even it out. Then I brushed the color back in for the background and made it more blue than it had been.

Leaf Drops

Leaf Drops, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

125/365

Took this on my way into work. My hands were a bit shaky for hand-holding a macro shot but I didn't have the tripod with me. Black and white helps to isolate this leaf from the others a bit more.

Yellow

Yellow, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

124/365

There are forsythia bushes all over Dover. This one is near my office and I stopped by on my way home after the rain to see what I could find for a shot. The trouble was that it was windy and in macro the focal range is pretty small. I should have shot in burst mode, I'll try to remember that next time.

The Music Hall Lobby

The Music Hall Lobby, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

123/365

13 second exposure from the banister in the new lobby at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH after seeing Barney's Version. I even captured myself (accidentally).

Old Glory

Old Glory, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

122/365

So they finally found and killed Osama bin Laden. I know that is a big deal to a lot of people. My perspective is that there is always going to be another terrorist to take his place. However, if you are looking to bolster the economy by sinking further billions into the war machine you need a bad guy to point at and the occasional victory.

Mainly I wanted to try out some perspective correction software. Looks like it works.

Setting Sun

Setting Sun, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

121/365

I took a walk as the sun was beginning to set and found this scene. I didn't want a silhouette effect, I wanted the tree to be green still and to show the golden light on the bottoms of the leaves. I think it worked well.

Great Island Common

Great Island Common, originally uploaded by srcleaves.

04/30/2011 - 120/365

Took this sitting on a bench at the outer edge of the park in the afternoon of 4/30/2011 (the movie was compiled today so the EXIF date will be today) from 5:30 to 6:00. I was hoping the sea level rise would be more apparent but I'm happy with the results regardless.
